Arrange the eight gemstone cards to form a complete 2x4 image. Note, the ruler cutout has two sides with different markings: Small and large red marks on one side, small and large black marks on the other.
Start by measuring from the Star in the square to another square 3 small red marks away, which is M. From M, measure to a hexagon 4 small red marks away, which is U. Continuing making the measurements in order, there is only one path where all measurements work. The last shape measured to is the answer, the letter R. As an additional clue to our mystery, the combined measured letters spell out MURDER.
